Field Technician

( Positions filled for the 2024 season )

Field Technicians protect the public’s health by inspecting standing water for mosquito larvae and treating sources as required. During heavy mosquito outbreaks employees may be required to work additional hours to control mosquito larvae and the biting adults. No experience is required.

Lab Technician

( Positions filled for the 2024 season)

Lab Technicians perform collection and identification of mosquitoes in our district.  Using 3 different methods of collection (BG Sentinel, Gravid, and NJ Light). Lab Technicians also test mosquitoes for mosquito-borne diseases, like West Nile Virus.

Radio Dispatch/Data Entry

( Position filled for the 2024 season )

The focus of this job is the entry of all hard copy data (Field reports, time sheets, service calls, etc.).    Radio operation duty requires the employee to maintain communications with Field Trucks, record vehicle locations and treatments. No experience required.

Criteria for Seasonal Employment

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License

  • Pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam with a score of 70% or above. Study materials will be supplied.  The District will pay all testing and licensing fees AND you'll be paid for your time to take the exam!

  • Meet additional District requirements outlined on the job application and explained in detail during the interview process

 

Schedule:

Monday – Friday:  7:00am to 3:30pm

Possible Employment Duration:

May – September

(Note: failure to include & abide by stated start & end dates may result in employment disqualification, dismissal and/or loss of length-of-stay bonus, Seasonal mosquito control work may be available to Sept. 30th)

Work location preference

For the 2024 season, Wheeling shop will be closed due to renovations. Lab and radio will be located at temporary offices at 1500 Hicks Road Suite 100, Rolling Meadows, Illinois 60008. 

 

For Field Technicians, please choose your first and second choices from the two operational shops.  

Note: At times, due to the unpredictable nature of mosquito control work, extended hours may be required of all field operations personnel in the form of 9 hour shifts, evening adulticiding work and Saturday day-time work.
